Class will discuss the selection and preparation of meals and provide community and national resources that support healthy and environmentally sustainable diets. Topics include evaluating grass fed and pasture raised meat and dairy, sustainable fish, local and/or organic products, and the effect of diet on global warming. Students learn how 'earth friendly foods' can improve physical and emotional health and protect the safety of food producers. Class includes a tour of a farm.

Nutrition for Longevity - Six weeks beginning Wednesday June 5, 2024 - Expired
This six week free class to learn the connections between food choices, agriculture, the environment and our longevity. Class discussions will include not only what to eat, but also, when to eat and how to select and prepare delicious wholesome food and enjoy it. This class will meet in various locations to tour a community garden and health food store together along with a visit to a cafe and food store. First class will meet at the Carpinteria Community Library

Topics include information about the food choices and lifestyles of the centenarians who live in the "Blue Zones". Gerri will translate the latest science based research into practical information. You will learn which foods contain antioxidants and other bioactive ingredients that reduce inflammation along with discussion about the benefits of intermittent fasting and more. Students will have access to articles, videos, discussions and recipe exchange

How to Eat like a Healthy Vegetarian
Eating plant foods has many health and environmental benefits. This class will explore the various types of Vegetarian diets and recommended foods needed to meet your nutritional needs. It may not be necessary to 'be' a vegetarian, though eating more plant-based foods may be one of the secrets to longevity.

Santa Barbara Food and Farm Adventures Meetup
We are interested in learning about local food production and where our food comes from. Each month we visit farms and food events to increase our awareness awareness about the connections between the health of our soil and our own personal wellness.
